Water
Planning in the Paso del Norte:
Toward Regional Coordination
See the
press release for the report.
The report
is the first publication of the Task Force and is the result of the Task
Force's Project I. Project I was outlined by the Task Force in the
workplan in
October 1999.
Abstract:
Possibly for the first time, this report brings together in a single
document basic background information regarding population, land use,
water supply, water demand, and the institutional context of water
management and planning in the Paso del Norte. The report also compares
current practices by water planning agencies through an analysis of the
following parameters in their water plans: planning horizon, plan
updates, population projections, projections of water supply and demand,
projections of land use trends, public involvement in water planning,
and proposals for action. It is intended to serve as a resource that
will support continued dialogue regarding cooperative actions across
international, state, and municipal boundaries to achieve more
sustainable water management and use in the Paso del Norte.
