habitantes de la capital del estado. La sequía que prevalece en la

Santa Fe’s water supply is having a comeback thanks to snow melting in
the mountains. Runoff is running at 10 times the rate reported last
year. Reservoirs in the region are at 61 percent of capacity.
6. Restrictions May Drop, but Water Still Precious

The successful water conservation measures adopted in El Paso have
yielded positive results. Actual water use for April and May is down an
average of 21 percent compared to last year. Stage 2 water restrictions
will be lifted before the originally planned date.

8. Water Released at Abiquiú for Silvery Minnow

New Mexico’s efforts to save the Rio Grande silvery minnow continued
this week with the release of 3,000 acre-feet of water from a regional
reservoir. Officials within the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation expect that
the released water will increased water flow in the middle Rio Grande,
where the minnow spawns.

the original plan, officers caution that Stage 1 restrictions will

11. Domenici Measure Chops at Salt Cedars

New Mexico Senator Pete Domenici introduced legislation that targets
Salt Cedars. Each tree consumes 200 gallons per day. The legislation
would facilitate research and development for a program that would
eradicate Salt Cedar trees from the Rio Grande.

12. El Valle: Reducen Siembra un 60%

Comisión Internacional de Límites y Aguas (CILA) ha notificado que, de

14. Se Secan 8 Pozos de Agua; En Tan Solo un Año y Medio Quedaron Abatidos

Debido a la sobreexplotación, en la region de Saltillo se han secado 8
pozos de agua en los últimos 18 meses. Esos pozos se encontraban en tres
importantes acuíferos que forman parte de la cuenca del Río Bravo.
15. LANL Scientist Explores Local Water Issues

LANL hydrologist Elizabeth Keating has been studying water availability
in the Santa Fe area. Various other agencies are also researching
geology, groundwater and climate changes in the region.
